What are some ways you guys curb toxicity in your communities?

This is a pretty open-ended question, but one that every server owner has to deal with with.

Personally we find to shut them down early on by muting and gagging and clearly explaining treat people good or leave. It sounds extreme, but it is that healthy balance between scaring off trolls and losing people from trolls upsetting them.
