Host Havoc - wasn't the best for us

We tried host havoc out when we were trying to get a better host than NFO. NFO has top tier support, replying usually within 5 minutes. They also have awesome backups and a 99.99% uptime guarantee - these are all very important things when your community gets big. The only downside we had with them is we run mostly sandbox servers, and need every ounce of CPU performance we can get because of Garry's Mod still being a single core server application in 2023.... :(

This caused us to start looking into other hosts, and one person told us about host havoc. We made an account and got a server with their 3-day money back guarantee, got set up with a server, and immediately noticed we weren't running on port 27015. To most this doesn't matter, but when you run more complex setups and are already established on one port, switching around is not fun. No big deal, we'll open a ticket and see about getting moved around.

I opened up the ticket, got a reply within a half hour or so, and the process began, about an hour later the server was on 27015, success! I continued on with testing, all was well. The next day I was ready to move the server over to them from NFO and get this massive speed boost.

The next morning I began copying stuff over, got that all sorted, and went to boot it up, the server started boot looping indefinitely... nice. I was sure everything was working, so I opened a ticket to see if I missed anything, or if maybe there was a problem on their end.

Once I got a reply another half-ish hour later, they told me port 27015 was already in use by another customer, and I would need a new port number to continue, or switch my server to a different hosting location. As you can imagine I was a little annoyed, as I had just had them make this change for me, and the prior rep did not take the time to confirm if the port was utilized or not.

I dug deeper to see how this ended up happening, and apparently the other customer had their server offline, and that was why the rep could not see that. I don't know about you guys, but they should have a better way to check than that.

Despite this I was going to still give them a shot, so I asked to be relocated somewhere else where 27015 was available, and then...nothing.

An hour went by...nothing

Two hours went by... I sent a follow up email looking for an ETA as the server was still offline...nothing

Three hours... they reply saying the only person able to fix the server isn't in the office right now. Yes, you read that right, the ONLY PERSON with the whole company who could fix things.

Four...

Five...

and by this point I had enough. I requested my 3-day refund, which opened yet ANOTHER ticket, and what would you have it, my original ticket where they were waiting on the engineer, or probably the owner of the company, immediately gets the server moved over to a new machine.

Part of me almost gave them another chance, but I shouldn't have to threaten my host to get service back online. I ended up going through with the refund.

Maybe others have more positive experiences, but this was our journey.
